From a cell to an algorithm.
We combine human biology with neural networks and build tools for medicine on that foundation.
The code that describes us.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is shaped by the environment, but also by genes. We described the biological and genetic mechanisms of the disease in a review published in Biomedicines (2023).
An impulse that moves the body.
A neuron sends an electrical signal along its axon. At the end of that path, a muscle is waiting.
Muscle signals turned into data.
Between 2017 and 2019 we developed a telerehabilitation platform. An armband with EMG sensors measures the electrical activity of muscles, and a system based on neural networks checks whether exercises at home are done correctly.

Billions of neurons, one principle.
The brain learns by strengthening the connections that often carry a signal. Artificial neural networks borrow that idea: they learn by tuning the strength of their connections.
A model that sees patterns.
A neural network learns to recognise patterns in medical data: in a recording of muscle activity or in an image from a phone camera.
COPD diagnostics from saliva.
We are developing saliva-based diagnostics for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We published the results of our research on salivary biomarkers in Biomedicines (2024).
